MBA/MMS CET 2022 – Day 2 Analysis

CET 2022 – Day 2

August 24, 2022.

(9 am-11:30 am & 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm)

On Day 2, CET-2022 took place in two slots between  9 am to 11:30 am and 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm.  CET 2022 is being held on three days from August 23rd to August 25th.

This analysis is based on the feedback received from IMS students and experts who appeared for the CET 2022 on the second day.

CET-2022 maintained a total of 200 questions from different areas without Sections. The overall difficulty level was easy, though slightly higher than the test on the first day, and easier than last year’s tests.

OVERVIEW – Morning Slot

OVERVIEW – Afternoon Slot

• Both morning and afternoon slots of Day 2 of CET-2022 were easy though not as easy as it was on Day 1.
• As usual, CET 2022 consisted of 200 questions to be attempted in 150 minutes
• Since there is NO Negative Marking in CET, candidates are expected to attempt all 200 questions.
• IMS estimate of good attempts refers to the number of serious attempts and excludes random attempts.

Verbal Ability/Reading Comprehension (50 Questions)

Morning Session

VARC in the morning slot consisted of around 50 questions with around 21 RC questions and 28 or 29 VA questions. Overall, the level of VARC in this slot was a tad higher than that of Day 1.

The 21 RC questions were based on seven or eight passages with lengths ranging from 100 words to 500 words. Most of the questions were easy to moderate. Some of the passage topics are – a parable about a wolf in sheep’s clothing, a story about a fisherman and a helpful bird, sustainability, etc. The question types asked were mostly specific detail questions and inference questions with one or two questions which required forming an overall idea of the passage such as identifying the tone.

The VA part had familiar question types.

– There were around 7 questions based on synonyms, antonyms and analogies.

– There were 5 odd sentence questions (each with 5 statements).

– The test also had questions to identify the correct spelling, find the odd word, identify the word representing the opposite gender.

– Apart from these, a Cloze test type passage with 4 blanks also featured on the test.

The level of difficulty in the morning slot was slightly higher than that of Day 1, but overall can be categorized as being in the easy to moderate range.

Afternoon Session

VARC in the afternoon slot of Day 2 also consisted of around 50 questions with certain differences as compared to the morning slot. Around 18 questions were asked from 3 RC passages with lengths ranging from 500 to 550 words. Some of the passage topics are – how Kodak failed to innovate, scepticism about Asia’s stability and conflicts in colonies. Most of the questions asked were in the easy to moderate range of LOD.

The VA part saw some question types similar to the morning slot and some different question types as well.  In the afternoon slot, questions were asked on topics such as synonyms, antonyms, analogies, find the odd word, fill in the blanks (1 blank and 2 blanks), replace the underlined phrase, jumbled paragraphs (4 statement MCQs), and paragraph completion.  The level of difficulty was comparable to that of the morning slot but slightly higher than that of Day 1. The overall level of difficulty of VARC in this slot was easy to moderate.

Most of the VA questions could be answered quickly with high accuracy.

Quantitative Aptitude

Morning session

There were about 50-55 questions on Quantitative Aptitude in the morning slot. There were no questions  on Data Interpretation. There were about 6-7 questions on Data Sufficiency in the morning slot. The level of difficulty of the questions on Quantitative Aptitude was easy.  The questions on Quantitative Aptitude were dominated by questions on Arithmetic. There were 20-25 questions on Arithmetic and all the subtopics in Arithmetic (such as Time-Speed-Distance, Averages, Ratio-Proportion, Time & Work, Mixtures & Alligations, Percentages, Simple and Compound Interest) were represented. Other topics on which questions were asked on Quantitative Aptitude were Numbers (about 10 questions) , Geometry (6-7 questions) , and Modern Mathematics (6-7 questions- on  P&C and Probability).

Afternoon session

There were about 70 questions on Quantitative Aptitude in the afternoon slot. There were in all 18 questions  on Data Interpretation. Unlike the day 1 and the morning session on day 2, there were no questions on Data Sufficiency in the afternoon slot. The level of difficulty of the questions on Quantitative Aptitude was easy.  The questions on Quantitative Aptitude were completely dominated by questions on Numbers. There were 26 questions on Numbers. Other topics on which questions were asked on Quantitative Aptitude were Arithmetic (about 16 questions) , and Modern Mathematics (6-7 questions- on  P&C and Probability).

Logical Reasoning 

Morning session

There were about 80-85 questions on Logical Reasoning in the morning session. Questions on Logical Reasoning were totally dominated by questions on non-verbal reasoning. There were 80 questions on Non-Verbal Reasoning. Out of the 80 questions on Non-Verbal Reasoning, 44 questions were set based. Unlike the previous slots in CET-2022, there was one set on Sequential Output. Other topics that were represented included Clocks & Calendars, Directions and Number Series.   There were 3 easy questions of verbal reasoning from the topics of syllogisms and courses of action.

Afternoon session

There were about 70 questions on Logical Reasoning in the afternoon session. Questions on Logical Reasoning were totally dominated by questions on non-verbal reasoning. There were 60-62 questions on Non-Verbal Reasoning. Out of the 60-62 questions on Non-Verbal Reasoning, 34 questions were set based. There was no set on Sequential Output in the afternoon session. Other topics that were represented included Number Series (13 questions), Family Tree (3 questions) and Directions (3 questions).

The verbal reasoning part of LR consisted of 8 questions asked from various topics such as reverse syllogism, assertion reasoning, critical reasoning and arrange the words. Most of these 8 questions were in the easy to moderate range of LOD.

Overall difficulty of the questions on Logical Reasoning was easy to moderate.

Visual Reasoning

Unlike day 1 of CET-2022, there were only 8-9 questions on Visual Reasoning in the morning session and 13 questions in the afternoon session. The questions were based on series completion and odd man out. The overall difficulty level was in the range of easy to medium.
