How is CAT Percentile Calculated?

In the CAT exam, your percentile shows how you performed compared to other candidates. Here’s how it works:

  1. First, your raw scores are calculated based on the grading rules: you earn 3 marks for each correct answer, and you lose 1 mark for each incorrect answer. If you answer a question that isn’t multiple choice, you won’t lose any points for a wrong answer.

  1. After your raw scores are figured out, the next step is to calculate your percentile. This involves a few key steps:

   – You get points based on how many questions you got right or wrong.

   – Your total score is calculated by adding 3 marks for each correct answer and subtracting 1 mark for each incorrect answer.

   – The scores for each section and your overall score are then adjusted to create a scaled score.

   – Finally, these adjusted scores are turned into percentiles, which you will see on your CAT scorecard.

In summary, the percentile rank shows where you stand among all test-takers based on your performance.

What is CAT Normalisation Process?

The CAT exam is held in three separate sessions, and each session has different questions. Because of this, some sessions might be easier or harder than others. To make sure that all candidates are treated fairly, the CAT authorities adjust the scores to create a level playing field. This process is called normalization, and it considers factors like:

  1. Highest score
  2. Lowest score
  3. Mean score
  4. Median score
  5. Top 10 percentiles
  6. Lowest 10 percentiles

What After CAT Result 2024?

After the CAT results are announced, the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) will choose candidates for the Written Ability Test (WAT) and GDPI rounds. Each IIM will decide its own minimum score that candidates need to meet. If you score above this minimum, you will need to fill out a form on the IIM’s official website that you chose in your application.

It’s important to submit this form by the deadline to be considered for selection. Your selection will be based on your CAT score and your academic performance in Class 10 and Class 12.

The IIMs are expected to release the shortlist for the MBA/PGP programs in January 2025. The PI rounds will take place in March and April, and the final results will be announced by May 2025.

To determine the final selection for the 2025-2027 MBA/PGP batch, the IIMs will look at several factors, including your CAT score, academic history, work experience, diversity in academics and gender, as well as how you perform in the WAT and PI.
