Factors that impact the CLAT cutoff marks in 2025 

CLAT cutoff 2025 are determined by the consortium of NLUs based on the following factors:

  1. Total number of applicants 
  2. Number of students who qualified for the exam. 
  3. Total number of seats available. 
  4. Previous year cutoff 
  5. Category 
  6. Difficulty level of the paper. 
  7. NLU preferences given by the candidates 
  8. Marks and rank obtained by the candidates 
  9. Seats offered by the NLUs. 
  10. Reservation policy of NLUs. 

Here is important info based on CLAT 2025 allotment lists:

1] Category-Wise Opening and Closing Ranks:

  • General: The range varies significantly, with top NLUs like NLSIU Bangalore having an opening rank of 1 and a closing rank of 102.
  • OBC: The opening and closing ranks are wider. For instance, NALSAR Hyderabad starts at 189 and goes up to 1116.

 

2] Admission Cutoffs for Top 3 NLUs:

  • NLU Bangalore: For the general category, the cutoff range is 1-102.
  • NALSAR Hyderabad: The range for the general category is 4-167.
  • NLU Kolkata: The cutoff for the general category falls between 140-277 for the BA LLB program and 289-1010 for the BSc LLB program.

Expected CLAT cutoff 2025 with few changes 

This year’s CLAT exam had a few changes: 

  1. The total marks for CLAT 2025 were revised from 150 to 120. 
  2. The overall difficulty level of the exam was reported to be lower than last year. 
  3. The previous year’s trends, too, are expected to impact the expected cutoff of CLAT 2025.

 

Tier  Expected Cutoff of CLAT 2025  Remarks 
Top Tier-1 NLUs 90+ Earlier, the cutoff marks for the top NLUs was around 70%. According to this year’s analysis, a score of around 75% or 90+ will be required. 
Tier-2 and Tier-3 NLUs 85-90 The cutoff marks are slightly lower than the top NLUs.
New NLUs 70-75 The cutoff for low-ranked and new NLUs was previously around 45-50% of the total marks. The cutoff for this year is expected to be 60% or 70 points.

 

CLAT 2025 expected cutoff highlights:

  1. An estimated cutoff range for securing admission in the leading 3 NLUs will be 90+. 
  2. If the candidate aims to secure a spot in the top 5 NLUs, the estimated CLAT cutoff will be 85+. 
  3. It is recommended that the candidates should aim for an entrance exam score of 70+ if they are interested in gaining admission into any NLU.

While the candidates’ first preference is NLUs, they should keep in mind that there are other government as well as private colleges that accept CLAT scores. Currently, 60+ private colleges are participating in CLAT 2024 such as Law College, Dehradun, Mody University, Asian Law College, and Xavier Law School, Xavier University.
